Help encoding

When I render a video even though I dl'd a bunch of codecs I get a VERY LIMITED option. Using what little options It allows me I attempt to convert the video in Handbrake to a MP4 but every time I get a M4V encoding/format...wtsf ???
I DL 'd the codecs listed on LearnMMD web site, yet I'm not getting all the options like I had before I had to redo my laptops OS.

M4V format is very similar to MP4, and you are right, even if you choose mp4 Hnadbrake create a video in M4V, you need to change the file extension in the bottom bar before start encode, where it say Save as.

MP4 and M4F are containers. A codec is something else. Generally, it does not matter what your container is. It is the codec that is important. You should at least use VP9 or h.264 (aka. AV1 or AVC). But better you use a newer one like AV1 or h.265 (aka. HEVC). These are codecs. You cannot tell what codec a video uses by it's file name.

Also avoid reendocding a video file because that lowers the quality of the video. If you need to edit it make sure that the source video is in a VERY high quality.
